I’m a Chicago based photographer, writer, and videographer that’s been working in the field in one way or another since the early aughts. I found my way into independent media in the 90s by way of the punk scene and eventually at Columbia College. I started doing zines back then and eventually found myself contributing to several local and regional indie magazines which sadly, have long since passed their way into distant memory.

Shortly after college, I was part of a media collective that ran a zine distro, website, and podcast. Over the years, I dabbled in both low-power and internet radio and intermittently hosted several different literary reading series. In 2009 I began contributing regularly to Chicagoist, where I wrote about local and national politics, activism, and music, continuing that through the site’s eventual dissolution in 2017.

At the same time I began contributing to other local, regional, and national sites as a freelancer. Meanwhile, I branched out from solely writing to shooting photos and eventually video. I’ve also intermittently worked for a few non-profits, political campaigns, and unions in a visual communications basis.

My photography, video, and journalism work has been featured in Culture Combine, Shadowproof, Third Coast Review, The Progressive, Time, Chicago Magazine, Chicago Sun-Times, Crain’s Chicago Business, The Guardian, CBS, The New York Times, In Justice Today, Alternet, Truthout, In These Times, Nation of Change, Visu.News, The Daily Line, The Huffington Post, Shareable, Quarantine Times, Forces of Geek, and more.

Most of my work tends to center around politics or activism, specifically focusing on people’s movements. I’ve documented strikes and protests both local and national, anti-war/peace movements, the occupy movement, Black Lives Matter, Fight for 15, and more. I’ve also documented several local, regional, and national elections.

In addition to politics and activism, I’ve also shot concerts, events, and festivals for more than a decade. I documented and helped run a popup bookstore on the Dinner and Bikes tour for 5 years with Microcosm Publishing. Once and awhile I do portraits and weddings, and when I travel I always bring at least one camera with me just to see what I can capture.
